What To Know
- The water is better tasting and safer for use but some people can come across problems with the system as it can be more complicated than a charcoal filter.
- A replacement for the tank should occur every 5 years, if you have lost pressure, do not add in the air as the air can continue to leak out and cause an issue if the bladder in the tank has gone bad.
Changing over to a reverse osmosis system can mean a wealth of improvements for your home water supply. Reverse osmosis systems are currently some of the best on the market for filtering out contaminants. The water is better tasting and safer for use but some people can come across problems with the system as it can be more complicated than a charcoal filter. Here are some of the top troubleshooting actions to take on with reverse osmosis:
Make sure lines are connected:
Changing the RO filters and membranes will mean reconnecting tubing. As you remove any tubing, make sure that you take a picture of the configuration and double-check if the lines have remained connected.
Pushing On The Membrane
If you have a 5 stage RO, make sure that when disassembling the membrane that you are properly pushing it back in securely. The o rings may require lubrication to fall into place and create a tight seal.
Check Valves
If you are having problems getting water to come through the system, you need to turn the inlet valve back on accordingly. The flow restrictor could be plugged and you will need to match a flow restrictor to your membrane size. Changing a membrane size will make sure you have a matched flow control.
Check Filters
Sometimes there can be wrapping stuck to new filters, people will occasionally forget to remove the wrapper before installation.
Checking auto-shutoff value: If you have turned the water on and off, the diaphragm can activate the auto-shutoff valve.
Check on Tubing
If tubing gets scored or scratched, this can often lead to a need for replacement. Cutting tubing short and replacing areas that could be a problem is important.
No Pressure
A replacement for the tank should occur every 5 years, if you have lost pressure, do not add in the air as the air can continue to leak out and cause an issue if the bladder in the tank has gone bad.
